The following are the guidelines for preparing and using the temephos mother solution to control the larvae and pupae of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes found in clean water storage containers.
This mother solution is to be prepared for use in clean water storage places such as cement tanks, wells, clay tanks, barrels, drums, and similar sites where Aedes mosquito larvae are found.
The temephos solution should not be used directly as it is; instead, the mother solution must be prepared. The mother solution should be prepared according to the chart provided below.
Preparation Chart for 1% Temephos Mother Solution
| Sr. No. | Temephos 50% EC | Water | 1% Mother Solution |
| 1 | 1 ml | 49 ml | 50 ml |
| 2 | 2 ml | 98 ml | 100 ml |
| 3 | 10 ml | 490 ml | 500 ml (½ Liter) |
| 4 | 20 ml | 980 ml | 1000 ml (1 liter) |
Method to Measure Water Storage in a Container
To calculate the volume of the water in a container, use the following formula:
Water Volume in a Container = Length x Width X Water height in the Container x 28 /10
Here,
28 = One cubic foot contains 28 liters of water.
10 = We have a supply of 50% EC temephos. To prepare a 1% mother solution, the concentration must be diluted by dividing by 10.
For positive containers (having Aedes mosquito larvae and pupae) at the outbreak sites that cannot be emptied, use the 1% temephos mother solution according to the volume of water in the container. following the information provided below.
| Sr. No. | 1% Mother Solution | Volume of water (liter) in the container |
| 1 | 1 ml | 10 liters of water |
| 2 | 10 ml | 100 liters of water |
| 3 | 100 ml | 1000 liters of water |
| 4 | 1000 ml | 10,000 liters of water |
Guidelines for the use of temephos mother solution are given below
1) The prepared 1% temephos mother solution should be used within 12 hours according to the requirement and should not be reused afterward
2) The 1% temephos mother solution should be applied to water storage containers every fifteen days, and the solution should be stirred with a stick.
3) The 1% temephos mother solution must not be used in drinking water. It should be only used in containers that can not be emptied
4) After starting the application of the temephos mother solution, entomological surveys should be conducted after two days to ensure that no mosquito larvae or pupae are found in any water containers.
5) While applying temephos mother solution in any container, an accurate measurement of the water volume in the container must be taken, and the prescribed concentration should be strictly maintained. When repeating the application after fifteen days, the water volume should be measured again. Before adding the appropriate amount of mother solution.
